Mount San Antón (Mouse of Getaria)

Mount San Antón, known as Ratón de Getaria or the "Mouse of Getaria", is an interesting nature park home to an excellent variety of both native and exotic plants and trees. It was an island until the fifteenth century, when it was attached to the town by an artificial strip of land or isthmus. The first stop en route to the summit is the lighthouse, which once told sailors when whales were nearby or warned them of strong winds.

After leaving the lighthouse, we continue our ascent to the highest point of the mountain, where we find a small building known as Katxapo. The wonderful view over the Basque coast from this point is considered a gift from San Antón to visitors.
